In March of 2004 Integrative Dentistry found its new home!

It had taken six years and multiple offices to land us in our new digs. And we have always been so grateful for this office, with windows and doors that open, fronting onto a garden.
Twenty years later, we continue to be thankful for this space, where we can offer a unique and supportive environment for dental care. It has been well worth the journey to arrive here.
Our New Associate Dr Tracy Evans
The most exciting news to date is that Dr. Tracy Evans, an experienced dental practitioner, has joined our staff! Like Dr. O’Rielly, she is graduate of the prestigious USC Dental School. A lieutenant commander and dental instructor in the Navy, Dr. Evans now brings her warmth and expertise to our practice.

Dr. Evans is excited about practicing in a protected environment for the removal of toxic metals, and will have safe amalgam removal as one of her areas of focus. Among the first improvements at Integrative Dentistry were the fans and filters for safe amalgam removal.
Also the amalgam separator in the floor, so the extracted metals won’t go into the Community water line. (The City of Encinitas did not mandate this until 17 years later.)
Another focus for Dr. Evans will be clear aligners for adults as well as for children age 12 and older. She enjoys creating beautiful smiles with aligners, veneers and restorative crowns. More to come about this!
The Fotona Laser
In 2018 Dr. O’Rielly began using the Fotona laser in order to treat root canal infections, in conjunction with a local endodontist, Dr. Packer. He continues to provide the SWEEPS treatment, and when called for will use ozone to prevent a root canal. Dr. O’Rielly will always opt to save teeth whenever possible.
Dr. Evans also uses the Fotona laser, and is a big advocate of lasers to maintain and restore dental health.
Galvanic Action – The Battery Effect
Dr. O’Rielly continues to offer galvanic testing to determine the ionic and electronic charges of dental metals from previous treatment. This finds metals that are reactive and have abnormally high electrical charges. When dissimilar metals are next to each other, like amalgam and gold crowns, this can set up even higher charges, as the metals have cross currents.
High Definition Microscope
To determine whether Inflammatory conditions arising from dental metals or oral microbes might be a hidden cause, he introduced microscope evaluation many years ago. One of the videos taken from the microscope has had over a million hits on youtube!
The Porcelain Fused to Zirconia Crown
At this time Dr. O has also introduced a specialized porcelain crown that has both the hardness for support and to prevent breakage, and the natural look of hand layered porcelain to imitate real teeth. This type of crown is especially suited to implant crowns, enabling them to have a more balanced biting and chewing surface. Here is an article discussing the porcelain fused to zirconia crown.
For those who are Interested in metal-free implants, we offer zirconia implants, which is extremely bio-friendly. We will be working with Dr. Brian Evans, an implant specialist, and Dr. Tracy Evans’ husband.
Honorable Mentions
Because of all the precautions in place, the office was able to stay open during Covid. At that time, Dr. O’Rielly had negative pressure installed. This allows for a complete air exchange in the operatories between patients, adding another layer of safety for dental treatment.
Additionally there is a diode laser available for hygiene now. It treats periodontal issues that might otherwise develop into conditions needing more aggressive and expensive treatment.
Integrative Dental Team!
And the most recent news: We are thrilled to have the Drs. Evans on our team!

Here is a picture of our staff in our garden outside the office.

Carey O’Rielly DDS has been a practicing dentist for 35 years. He went to USC Dental School and Duke University for his undergraduate degree. He grew up in Laguna Beach and now lives in La Costa with his wife Victoria, who runs his office.
He began his career by owning and operating a network of six offices in the San Francisco Bay Area. Presently he owns a private holistic practice in North County San Diego’s Encinitas.
Dr. O started looking for solutions to his health challenges that resulted from the stress and environmental toxicity that built up over a ten year period running his dental network. He has dedicated himself to learning about oral systemic problems and how dentistry can affect your health. He has applied what he has learned over the last twenty years to ensure he, his staff and his patients are protected from the chemicals and toxic materials found in most dental offices. He has produced an environmentally friendly office that is also peaceful and calm.
He is an expert on dental materials having looked at hundreds of biocompatibility lab tests over the years. He has identified the most bio-friendly materials to use in his practice and which dental materials can be used to replace metal fillings and crowns, including BPA free and fluoride free ‘white’ fillings. He also uses metal-free Zirconia or ceramic implants and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) grafting materials which come from the patient’s own blood.
Dr. O’Rielly teaches C.E. courses on the systemic effects of gum disease. He is an expert in using phase contrast microscopy for analyzing dental infections, where he shows patients what kind of microbes, i.e. bacteria, amoeba, and yeasts like candida are populating the mouth and affecting the body as a whole.
He has an educational blog and is writing a book on dental health called ‘Hidden Dental Infections: Healing Root Canals and Infected Teeth with the Erbium Laser’ where he discusses dental nutrition, toxic dental materials and the effects of old root canals on inflammation and overall health.
