\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/myholisticdentist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSCF9753.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”on” _builder_version=”3.0.97″ box_shadow_style=”preset1″][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.97″]The comments were virtually unanimous, “You’re going to love it there.\u00a0 It is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.”\u00a0 We were not disappointed.\u00a0 Besides being dramatic in its beauty, Kauai is one of the wettest places on earth, with waterfalls that pour down year round.\u00a0 Its beaches are amazing and the Napali Coast is like no other place I’ve seen (especially since we saw it from a helicopter!).

The Beaches<\/h1>\n

Kauai has beautiful beaches.\u00a0 If you just want to get away, relax. walk or snorkel all are possible within a short drive.\u00a0 The favorite beaches we found were mostly on the north shore:

Nice walking beach as well.\u00a0 More on this below.<\/p>\n

Secret Beach is a short walk but worth it as it has dramatic rock formations, cliffs, waves and a view of the lighthouse.<\/a><\/p>\n

Tunnels beach was one of our favorites, as it is long enough to walk and the reefs close to the shore make for great snorkeling.\u00a0 The beauty and variety of the fish we saw in Kauai were amazing.<\/p>\n

Anini Beach is another beach worth mentioning.\u00a0 It has good snorkeling, as there is an outside reef keeping most of the waves out.<\/p>\n

Larsen beach is quite a hike in but fairly unused and deserted because of it.\u00a0 If you like to be alone this is the place for you.<\/p>\n

There were others of course but these were among our favorites.\u00a0 Another favorite is the fabulous beach at Hanalei Bay.\u00a0 Great for walking, but it is usually more crowded.

The Sunsets<\/h1>\n

The atmospheric color in Kauai is something special.\u00a0 There is a pastel and pink\/purple hue to the sky, clouds and landscape I have never seen before.\u00a0 Some artists are able to capture this quality in their paintings, but you have to be there to really experience it.
\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/myholisticdentist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSCF9917.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”on” _builder_version=”3.0.97″ box_shadow_style=”preset1″][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.97″]As the sun goes down this color palette is even more dramatic and unusual.\u00a0 One of the best places I found to view sunsets was at Ha’ena beach at the end of the road on the north shore.\u00a0 This is because the sun was setting over the water.\u00a0 You also got to see the Napali coast at the same time. Can you imagine being here to see this?

The Flowers<\/h1>\n

We were there in January and the flowers, especially the orchids, were still blooming.\u00a0 Where else can you see orchids in the wild and not in greenhouses?\u00a0 What I didn’t know is that orchids don’t really need soil to grow.\u00a0 They literally grow on trees.

The Gardens<\/h1>\n

If you like\u00a0gardens, Kauai is a great place to be.\u00a0 First of all the whole island is known as ‘The Garden Island.’\u00a0 Second there are people who have dedicated themselves to preserving the native and\u00a0 indigenous plant populations before they are lost forever.\u00a0 There are some very special gardens in Kauai and most are a labor of love.\u00a0 Many highlight the canoe plants that were originally brought over by the Polynesians 2,000 years ago.\u00a0 Some are nonprofits dedicated to research.<\/p>\n

Here are the best gardens we saw while in Kauai:
\n[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/myholisticdentist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSCF9845.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”on” _builder_version=”3.0.97″ box_shadow_style=”preset1″][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=”0px|0px|0px|0px” _builder_version=”3.0.97″][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.97″]Allerton<\/a> and McBryde Gardens<\/a> – These gardens are amazing.\u00a0 They are separate gardens on the south shore run by the same nonprofit.\u00a0 They are right next to each other but need to be visited and paid for separately.\u00a0 Basically, you would need to spend half a day at each of them to do them justice.\u00a0 Above the gardens there is a research facility studying the endemic plants of Hawaii.
\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/myholisticdentist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSCF9865.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”on” _builder_version=”3.0.97″ box_shadow_style=”preset1″][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=”15px|0px|0px|0px” _builder_version=”3.0.97″][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/myholisticdentist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Breadfruit.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”on” _builder_version=”3.0.97″ box_shadow_style=”preset1″][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.97″]One of the plants they are studying is a tree that bears a very unusual fruit called breadfruit.\u00a0 You treat breadfruit like you would a potato.\u00a0 Yes, it’s starchy but the unusual thing about it is that it has over 40% protein.\u00a0 What the McBryde Institute does\u00a0 is plant breadfruit trees in 3rd world countries in the Caribbean and Africa.\u00a0 If you want to read more about the McBryde Institute you can go here.\u00a0<\/a>Here are all the tours<\/a> offered through the Institute.
\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”3.0.97″ custom_padding=”20px|0px|18.3667px|0px”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.97″]Two other gardens worth mentioning are both on the north side of the island.\u00a0 Limahuli is near the end of the road in the Ha’ena State Park area. They highlight canoe and indigenous plants of Hawaii.\u00a0 The other is the Princeville Botanical Gardens,\u00a0 created by a couple who fell in love with Kauai and wanted to preserve some of its heritage.\u00a0 They also have a lecture on chocolate making and offer a wide variety of samples.

Hiking<\/h2>\n

[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row custom_padding=”0px|0px|40px|0px” _builder_version=”3.0.97″][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/myholisticdentist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/DSCF9889.jpg” show_in_lightbox=”on” _builder_version=”3.0.97″ box_shadow_style=”preset1″][\/et_pb_image][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.97″]Kauai is a hikers paradise, if you don’t mind some mud on your shoes.\u00a0 It’s a pretty wild place when you look at it, and there are hiking trails everywhere.\u00a0 Does anyone recognize this mountain from a Hollywood movie from the late 50’s?\u00a0 It is Bali Hai, called Makana by the locals, which means ‘Gift from Heaven.’\u00a0 It was popularized in the famous movie South Pacific<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0We saw where the movie was filmed on the helicopter ride.

Waterfalls<\/h1>\n

The other thing about Kauai are the waterfalls.\u00a0 There are more waterfalls in Kauai than anywhere I’ve seen.\u00a0 That’s because there is more rain in Kauai than just about anywhere on earth.

A Temple<\/h1>\n

We stumbled on upon a unique Hindu temple in the hills of the south side above Kapaa.\u00a0 On the lush, tropical grounds, the devotees have created a majestic testimony to their faith.\u00a0 \u00a0Victoria and I appreciate devotion wherever we find it and in whatever form it presents itself.\u00a0 This is the spirit which we try to bring to the dental practice and to our daily lives.\u00a0 Holistic means whole and we find that balance is important not only for our health but to our happiness and peace of mind.\u00a0 Dentistry takes a certain amount of devotion to do well.\u00a0 That is the only way I have been able to do it and enjoy it over the 30+ years I’ve been practicing.

The Gardens<\/h1>\r\n\r\n\"\"<\/a>If you like\u00a0gardens, Kauai is a great place to be.\u00a0 First of all the whole island is known as 'The Garden Island.'\u00a0 Second there are people who have dedicated themselves to preserving the native and\u00a0 indigenous plant populations before they are lost forever.\u00a0 There are some very special gardens in Kauai and most are a labor of love.\u00a0 Many highlight the canoe plants that were originally brought over by the Polynesians 2,000 years ago.\u00a0 Some are nonprofits dedicated to research.\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n\"\"<\/a>Here are the best gardens we saw while in Kauai:\r\n\r\nAllerton<\/a> and McBryde Gardens<\/a> - These gardens are amazing.\u00a0 They are separate gardens on the south shore run by the same nonprofit.\u00a0 They are right next to each other but need to be visited and paid for separately.\u00a0 Basically, you would need to spend half a day at each of them to do them justice.\u00a0 Above the gardens there is a research facility studying the endemic plants of Hawaii.\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n\"\"<\/a>One of the plants they are studying is a tree that bears a very unusual fruit called breadfruit.\u00a0 You treat breadfruit like you would a potato.\u00a0 Yes, it's starchy but the unusual thing about it is that it has over 40% protein.\u00a0 What the McBryde Institute does\u00a0 is plant breadfruit trees in 3rd world countries in the Caribbean and Africa.\u00a0 If you want to read more about the McBryde Institute you can go here.\u00a0<\/a>Here are all the tours<\/a> offered through the Institute.\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n\"\"<\/a>Two other gardens worth mentioning are both on the north side of the island.\u00a0 Limahuli is near the end of the road in the Ha'ena State Park area. They highlight canoe and indigenous plants of Hawaii.\u00a0 The other is the Princeville Botanical Gardens,\u00a0 created by a couple who fell in love with Kauai and wanted to preserve some of its heritage.\u00a0 They also have a lecture on chocolate making and offer a wide variety of samples.\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n

\u00a0Hiking<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\"\"<\/a>Kauai is a hikers paradise, if you don't mind some mud on your shoes.\u00a0 It's a pretty wild place when you look at it, and there are hiking trails everywhere.\u00a0 Does anyone recognize this mountain from a Hollywood movie from the late 50's?\u00a0 It is Bali Hai, called Makana by the locals, which means 'Gift from Heaven.'\u00a0 It was popularized in the famous movie South Pacific<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0We saw where the movie was filmed on the helicopter ride.\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n

A Temple<\/h1>\r\n\r\n\"\"<\/a>We stumbled on upon a unique Hindu temple in the hills of the south side above Kapaa.\u00a0 On the lush, tropical grounds, the devotees have created a majestic testimony to their faith.\u00a0 \u00a0Victoria and I appreciate devotion wherever we find it and in whatever form it presents itself.\u00a0 This is the spirit which we try to bring to the dental practice and to our daily lives.\u00a0 Holistic means whole and we find that balance is important not only for our health but to our happiness and peace of mind.\u00a0 Dentistry takes a certain amount of devotion to do well.\u00a0 That is the only way I have been able to do it and enjoy it over the 30+ years I've been practicing.\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n\u00a0\r\n\r\n

He is an expert on dental materials having looked at hundreds of biocompatibility lab tests over the years.\u00a0 He has identified the most bio-friendly materials to use in his practice and which dental materials can be used to replace metal fillings and crowns, including BPA free and fluoride free \u2018white\u2019 fillings.\u00a0 He also uses metal-free Zirconia or ceramic implants and PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) grafting materials which come from the patient\u2019s own blood. Dr. O\u2019Rielly teaches C.E. courses on the systemic effects of gum disease.\u00a0 He is an expert in using phase contrast microscopy for analyzing dental infections, where he shows patients what kind of microbes, i.e. bacteria, amoeba, and yeasts like candida are populating the mouth and affecting the body as a whole.
